At 12:00 pm JST, the center of Tropical Storm Kujira was located near 20.3N, 106.8E, or about 40 miles (65 kilometers) south of Hai Phong, Vietnam. Maximum sustained winds were 45 knots (50 mph, 85 km/h), with higher gusts. The minimum barometric pressure was 986 mb (hPa; 29.12 inHg), and the system was moving west-northwest at 4 knots (5 mph, 8 km/h).

Tropical Storm Kujira is moments away from landfall this evening. Conventional satellite imagery continues to show a fairly disorganized cyclone, with an irregular central dense overcast feature evident. However, a series of microwave passes around 0z indicated the presence of ragged inner features. As such, the initial intensity has been raised slightly to 45 kt, which may be conservative in the absence of any ASCAT passes. No further intensification is likely as Kujira moves into Vietnam, and instead rapid weakening is expected. The system is forecast to degenerate into a remnant low within 24 hours and dissipate within 36 hours, if not sooner.
